In the period from June 3 to 6, 2024, in Sarajevo, the “2nd European Symposium on Phytochemicals in Medicine and Food” (2-EuSPMF) was held, organized by the International Association of Dietetic Nutrition and Safety (IADNS) in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo.
The aim of 2-EuSPMF was to explore new advances in the field of phytochemical components in medicine and food, providing scientists of all generations with an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, sharing success stories, and establishing new research collaborations.
This scientific event is recognized in European and international circles as a high-quality forum for research in the fields of chemical, agricultural, health, and biological sciences.
As part of the conference, Helena Todorović, a junior research assistant from the Tamish Research and Development Institute, presented a paper entitled:
“Antioxidant potential of green synthesized Ag NPs, essential oil, and extracts of Origanum vulgare L. leaves”, authored by Latifeh Pourakbar, Helena Todorović, Neda Farnad, Sina Siavash Moghaddam, Svetlana Roljević Nikolić, and Jelena Popović-Đorđević.
The work was presented as a poster within the section Natural Resources of Bioactive Compounds and resulted from collaboration between IRI Tamiš, the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Agriculture of Urmia University (Iran).

Following the conference, on June 7, 2024, a visit was organized to the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the University of Sarajevo with the aim of gaining new knowledge and improving existing expertise through training.
During this visit, Helena Todorović completed basic training in the use of the Kjeldahl apparatus in the Laboratory for Soil Science, Plant Nutrition, and Land Reclamation, under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Dr. Emina Sijahović. During her stay, MSc chemist Helena Todorović became familiar with the working methods of the Institute for Soil Science, Agrochemistry, and Land Reclamation laboratories, which play a significant role in scientific research covering a wide range of topics including soil science, plant nutrition, environment, food, and water. These include soil fertility control, agrochemistry, plant nutrition, and studies on soil fertility (availability of macro- and microelements), among others. During the visit of IRI Tamiš researchers to the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, University of Sarajevo, possibilities for future cooperation in scientific research were also discussed.
