Our colleague Predrag Brković, an expert associate at the “Tamiš” Research and Development, Pančevo, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled “Yield potential and stability of different wheat genotypes grown under variable environmental conditions” on March 16, 2026, at the Faculty of Ecological Agriculture, Educons University in Sremska Kamenica.
The research included in this doctoral dissertation was conducted at three localities: Pančevo (Experimental field of the “Tamiš” Research and Development Institute), Kragujevac (Experimental field of the Center for Small Grains and Rural Development in Kragujevac), and Kruševac (Experimental field of the Institute for Forage Crops Kruševac). The study included 15 wheat genotypes (10 promising KG lines of bread wheat, three bread wheat varieties used as standards, and two KG lines of spelt). Based on the obtained results, the aim of the dissertation was to determine selection criteria and identify the most promising KG wheat lines that can be used as donors of desirable genes in breeding programs and that have the potential to be recognized as new varieties in the future.
The doctoral dissertation of Predrag Brković represents an original contribution to science, as it comprehensively integrates morphological, productive, and quality traits of bread wheat and spelt grown in multi-environmental trials, including antioxidant parameters analyzed across different phenophases. This approach enables a precise evaluation of genotype stability and adaptability, as well as their responses to abiotic stress.
By applying multivariate methods, promising KG wheat lines with high grain yield and stability were identified, as well as lines with specific adaptability in certain environments, which represent a significant genetic resource for breeding programs and have the potential to be recognized as varieties.

The board for the evaluation and defense of the doctoral dissertation was composed as follows: Dr. Olivera Nikolić, Full Professor, mentor; Dr. Mirela Matković Stojšin, Research Associate, mentor; Dr. Kristina Luković, Senior Research Associate, Chair of the Board; Dr. Zorica Mrkonjić, Associate Professor, member; and Dr. Zorana Srećkov, Associate Professor, member.

This doctoral dissertation provides new scientific insights for the selection and breeding of
wheat under conditions of pronounced climatic variations. Therefore, this achievement
represents a significant contribution to strengthening the scientific and research potential of
the “Tamiš” Research and Development Institute, especially in the field of plant genetics and
breeding.
The Institute “Tamiš” sincerely congratulates our colleague Predrag Brković on the
successful defense of his doctoral dissertation and wishes him continued success in his
scientific and research work.
