The Veterinary Directorate, through veterinary organizations in the field, monitors the health status and conducts continuous surveillance of domestic and wild pig populations for African swine fever (ASF) across the entire territory of Serbia, and implements comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of this infectious disease.
We once again appeal to all pig farmers that, if they notice any changes in the health condition or deaths of pigs on their farms, they should immediately inform their veterinarian. It is also necessary for hunters to implement the prescribed measures.
We remind you that African swine fever is a viral, highly dangerous infectious disease affecting domestic and wild pigs, for which there is no vaccine. The disease was first recorded in Serbia in 2019.
The African swine fever virus, for which there is no preventive vaccine, affects exclusively domestic and wild pigs and poses no risk to humans. Pork from registered facilities under veterinary inspection supervision is safe for consumption.
