Our colleague Predrag Brkovi\u0107, an expert associate at the \u201cTami\u0161\u201d Research and\nDevelopment, Pan\u010devo, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled \u201cYield\npotential and stability of different wheat genotypes grown under variable\nenvironmental conditions\u201d <\/strong> on March 16, 2026, at the Faculty of Ecological Agriculture,\nEducons University in Sremska Kamenica.<\/p>\n

The research included in this doctoral dissertation was conducted at three localities: Pan\u010devo\n(Experimental field of the \u201cTami\u0161\u201d Research and Development Institute), Kragujevac\n(Experimental field of the Center for Small Grains and Rural Development in Kragujevac),\nand Kru\u0161evac (Experimental field of the Institute for Forage Crops Kru\u0161evac). The study\nincluded 15 wheat genotypes (10 promising KG lines of bread wheat, three bread wheat\nvarieties used as standards, and two KG lines of spelt). Based on the obtained results, the aim\nof the dissertation was to determine selection criteria and identify the most promising KG\nwheat lines that can be used as donors of desirable genes in breeding programs and that have\nthe potential to be recognized as new varieties in the future.<\/p>\n

The doctoral dissertation of Predrag Brkovi\u0107 represents an original contribution to science, as\nit comprehensively integrates morphological, productive, and quality traits of bread wheat\nand spelt grown in multi-environmental trials, including antioxidant parameters analyzed\nacross different phenophases. This approach enables a precise evaluation of genotype\nstability and adaptability, as well as their responses to abiotic stress.<\/p>\n

By applying multivariate methods, promising KG wheat lines with high grain yield and\nstability were identified, as well as lines with specific adaptability in certain environments,\nwhich represent a significant genetic resource for breeding programs and have the potential to\nbe recognized as varieties.<\/p>\n

This doctoral dissertation provides new scientific insights for the selection and breeding of\nwheat under conditions of pronounced climatic variations. Therefore, this achievement\nrepresents a significant contribution to strengthening the scientific and research potential of\nthe \u201cTami\u0161\u201d Research and Development Institute, especially in the field of plant genetics and\nbreeding.
