About Institute “Tamiš”
The Research and Development Institute “Tamiš” has a tradition spanning 70 years, during which it has changed its status and organizational form several times. In December 1994, the Institute was first entered into the register of scientific research organizations of the Ministry of Science. Due to natural staff turnover and the departure of several PhDs to private breeding and chemical companies, the Institute lost the requirements necessary to maintain its accreditation. By decision of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection, on January 1, 2007, the Tamiš Institute lost its status as a scientific research organization.
After 15 years without the status of a scientific research organization, through strong commitment and engagement of the management, as well as the effective use of human and material resources, the Institute was re-accredited in 2022 as a scientific research organization. Today it operates under the name RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE TAMIŠ Ltd. Pančevo, within the framework of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia.
The Institute is accredited in the field of biotechnical sciences, branch agriculture. Research conducted at the Institute covers several areas, but the primary focus is on agroecology and regenerative agriculture, herbology, phytopathology, entomology, nematology, and seed science.
The Institute is part of the unified scientific and educational system of Europe and places science, research, and development at the center of its activities. In our work, we devote significant attention to the development of scientific staff by encouraging the professional development of young researchers and supporting their advancement in science. Scientific research at the Institute is conducted in the Institute’s living laboratory, equipped with all necessary infrastructure and machinery for high-quality experimental work, as well as in the “Tamiš Agrolab” laboratory. The “Tamiš Agrolab” laboratory is accredited and operates in accordance with the requirements of the SRPS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. The laboratory performs agrochemical soil analyses, molecular detection of phytopathogenic and phytoparasitic microorganisms, and seed quality testing. At the same time, the Institute’s living laboratory is used for regenerative agriculture trials, agrotechnical experiments, varietal trials, and pesticide trials.
The most significant achievements of the Institute are long-term experimental trials, including:
- The NPK trial, established in 1965, which monitors the impact of mineral nutrition on crop yield as well as on soil properties;
- A trial with different soil tillage systems, established in 2008, which examines the impact of four tillage systems (conventional ploughing, mulch tillage, Strip-Till, and No-Till) on crop productivity and soil characteristics. This experiment is aligned with current scientific trends, particularly the goals of sustainable agricultural development and measures for mitigating climate change;
- The establishment of a certified organic demonstration field in 2008, which marked the beginning of scientific research within the system of organic production;
- Research trials in fruit production, conducted in modern orchards of apple (1.5 ha) and peach (1.4 ha), donated to the Institute by the Government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in 2011. After the establishment and full equipment of the orchard, the GLOBALG.A.P. standard was introduced. Regarding current research, a methodology is being prepared to study the mechanism of action of apple fruit thinning agents and the physiological response of plants to applied treatments.
Vision
The Research and Development Institute “Tamiš” strives for excellence and multidisciplinarity in science, dynamic and proactive researchers, strengthening scientific cooperation at both national and international levels, integrating the Institute into educational, economic, and social activities, participation in international organizations, and fostering open and free scientific discussion.
Mission
The mission of the Institute “Tamiš” arises from its vision for further development. It is focused on the continuous improvement of the quality of scientific research, education, and professional training. Through the application and development of multidisciplinarity and excellence in science, the Institute aims to contribute to increasing the capacity and resources of society to more successfully address complex challenges and transformations, particularly in the fields of food production and agriculture.
