Researchers from the "Tamiš" Research and Development Institute Pančevo participated in the XI Symposium of the Serbian Association of Plant Breeders and Seed Producers and the VIII Symposium of the Section for Organism Breeding of the Serbian Genetic Society, held from 14 to 16 October 2026 in Vrnjačka Banja.

The symposium brought together numerous participants from 17 institutions and focused on current topics in genetic resources, modern methods and approaches in plant, animal and microorganism breeding, as well as seed production and the presentation of new varieties.

Researchers from the "Tamiš" Institute actively participated in the scientific symposium, also contributing to the activities of the Organizing and Scientific Committees. In the poster sessions, they presented research results on the assessment of wheat genotype stability under different agroecological conditions, as well as studies on the effects of angelica hydrolate on seed germination and early growth of different two-row barley lines.

Representing the Institute, the symposium was attended by the Director, Dr Svetlana Roljević Nikolić, principal research fellow; Dr Jelena Damnjanović, senior research associate; Dr Mirela Matković Stojšin, senior research associate; Dr Dragana Stevanović, research associate; and Dr Predrag Brković, research associate, who actively participated in the event.

A roundtable discussion was also held as part of the symposium programme on the topic "Domestic Seed Production and Serbia's Food Sovereignty: Analysis of Key Factors and Definition of Measures for Improvement in the Context of Strategic Priorities for the Development of Agriculture in the Republic of Serbia", which addressed the key challenges and opportunities for improving domestic seed production and its role in the development of Serbian agriculture.

The Assembly of the Serbian Association of Plant Breeders and Seed Producers, also held during the symposium, discussed the activities carried out by the Society, as well as its future work and activities in the fields of plant breeding and seed production.

Through their participation in this scientific symposium, researchers from the "Tamiš" Institute contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experience, the presentation of their research results, and the strengthening of cooperation with scientific and professional institutions in the fields of genetics, plant breeding, and seed production.
