The Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, Dr. Jelena Begović, the Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Mihailo Jovanović, and Israeli scientist and Nobel laureate Dan Shechtman ceremoniously opened the exhibition of the Government of the Republic of Serbia titled “Play for Humanity! Science for All” as part of the 65th International Fair of Techniques and Technical Achievements in Belgrade.
“Never before has technology had such an impact on our present, as well as on the future of new generations. Technology does not affect only us as humans—it affects nature as a whole and the planet itself. We cannot stop the development of technology, nor have we ever been able to, but we must understand it. Technology is here to help us, to make our lives easier and improve them,” emphasized Minister Begović, adding that visitors to the Fair will have the opportunity this week to get acquainted with new technologies and technological achievements, and to see what science offers Serbia as solutions to global challenges through concrete products and innovations.
“Today, as we present scientific and technological achievements that have positioned Serbia as a regional leader in just six years, it is a great honor to be part of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, led by Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, who in 2017 had the idea and vision of Serbia as a country of science, digitalization, creativity, and innovation. We have succeeded in that and transformed Serbia. In just a few years, we have done so by giving opportunities to our engineers, innovative and creative individuals. We have rapidly invested in infrastructure, reforms, and the development of a business environment in order to seize the opportunity to position ourselves in the era of digitalization as a country of opportunity and become one of the leaders of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said Minister Jovanović.
Israeli Nobel laureate in Chemistry, Dan Shechtman, pointed out that science advances through a long process of evolution, resulting in products that improve health, provide cleaner food, create better medicines, and enable modern life, including artificial intelligence. He wished Serbia success and emphasized the importance of involving as many young people as possible in science and technology, so that Serbia can become an even more outstanding country.
This year’s 65th edition of the International Fair of Techniques and Technical Achievements, which also marks a kind of jubilee in regional and international leadership in these fields, will be held from May 16 to 19, 2023, in Hall 2B of the Belgrade Fair. The thematic units of the new initiative “Play for Humanity! Science for All”, presented by the Republic of Serbia, include science and technology parks, agriculture, biotechnology, urban systems, historical heritage, artificial intelligence, and space.
